Ayoub
I believe that life always offers us new opportunities.
My name is Ayoub Haroun Abdulrahman Haroun. I am from Sudan.
If I were to describe myself, I would say that I am spontaneous, friendly, and curious. I am interested in life and in people. Everyone has their own story and deserves to be heard.
I really love football, both playing it myself and watching matches. I also enjoy reading novels and would love to learn to play the piano again. I like following the news, both locally and internationally. It is important to me to know what is happening around me and to stay informed about what is going on in the world.
I have many dreams and ambitions for the future. Learning, personal development, and connecting with others are important parts of my life. I want to keep learning languages, integrate further into society, and complete my university studies. By connecting with others and approaching them with understanding and respect, I hope to better understand people and broaden my perspective on the world. Of course, I realize that life has different priorities. That is why I try to achieve my ambitions step by step, focusing on what is most important at each stage.
I often think about the role language plays in communication and mutual understanding. I also think about my future. For me, communication is an essential part of life. That is why I continue to work on my ability to understand others and express myself clearly. Good communication brings people closer together. Therefore, I don't just see learning a new language as learning new words and sentences, but also as a way to better understand people, their culture, and their way of thinking—a way to build bridges between people.
What makes me happy are the simple things in life. An honest conversation, laughing with people I feel comfortable with, or even a quiet moment spent alone to reflect and reorganize my priorities.
My connection with the volunteers at Thuis in Epe began in a simple and unexpected way. One day, I was sitting on a chair near the entrance of the Fletcher hotel. One of the volunteers came up to me and asked if I wanted to join them. I said yes, without knowing at that moment where that simple invitation would lead me. From that point on, I gradually began to get to know the other volunteers and the people involved with Thuis in Epe. Thy was one of the first people I met. She guides the group and encourages contact with people who speak Dutch. Thanks to that first encounter, I had the chance to meet more people and take part in various activities.
What started as a simple invitation eventually became something much larger for me. To me, Thuis in Epe is not just a place where I learn Dutch or where activities and games are organized. It has become a community where I feel I can be myself, meet others, learn, and share my experiences. The people I have met through Thuis in Epe have become more than just acquaintances to me. I feel a true connection with many of them; they have become like family. That sense of connection, belonging, and feeling welcome means a lot to me, especially when you are in a new environment and getting to know new people, a new culture, and a new language.
I believe that life always offers us new opportunities: chances to start anew, to meet new people, to gain different experiences, and to build something beautiful together. Sometimes a simple invitation or a small moment can lead to something much greater than we ever expected. That is why I am deeply grateful for that simple invitation at the entrance of the Fletcher hotel. 😘
