It feels wonderful to be connected to one another.

My name is Joël de Goffau.

I have lived in beautiful Epe for five years now and I truly feel at home. We were warmly welcomed by our neighbors, the school our children attended, and the local football club. I'm a familiar face at the fish and cheese shop, and everyone is always open for a chat. It feels wonderful to be connected to one another.

When I heard about the Thuis in Epe initiative, I quickly stepped in as a volunteer. It is so rewarding to welcome other newcomers and engage in conversation with them. They have such unique stories—inspiring, energetic people who are eager to get involved in our community here in Epe. That is something I am very happy to support.

During Talking with Dutch people, we chat about everyday topics in a relaxed, easy-going way. It's a chance to practice the language and learn from each other's cultures. We get to know one another personally, as human beings. Additionally, I support young people by providing math tutoring, and I am so pleased that I will soon be able to do this with several fellow residents of the Fletcher.

As a child, I lived abroad for many years (in Cameroon and Sri Lanka), where diversity was a natural and beautiful part of life at the international school. Everyone was different, yet everyone belonged. I feel that same sense of connection again now, both with Epe and with our newcomers.
